Trip Info

Mt. Etna & Catania

Begin your excursion with a scenic drive to Catania. Upon arrival, enjoy a brief panoramic tour by vehicle through the historic city centre, passing notable landmarks such as Via Etnea, Villa Bellini, and Piazza Stesicoro. You will then stop near Cathedral Square for a short guided walking tour. Highlights include Piazza del Duomo, the city’s central square featuring the iconic Elephant Fountain, and the Cathedral of Catania, originally built by the Normans and renowned for its beautifully crafted choir stalls.

After the visit, reboard your vehicle and continue toward Mount Etna. Arrive in the Silvestri Craters area, located at approximately 1,950 metres above sea level. Mount Etna is Europe’s largest active volcano, rising to more than 3,296 metres, with its slopes dotted by countless cones and craters. From this vantage point, enjoy expansive views over the Gulf of Catania, as well as the surrounding woodlands, orchards, and vineyards. The main attraction, however, is the dramatic volcanic landscape, including ancient craters and the solidified remains of powerful lava flows.

Following your exploration, enjoy a typical Sicilian lunch at a local restaurant. At the conclusion of your visit, relax on the return drive back to the pier.

Important Notes

  • Your guide will meet you at the designated arrival point, either the cruise port or tender drop-off station—depending on your arrival option, holding a personalized sign for easy recognition.
  • The visits in Catania and on Mount Etna involve approximately 750–800 metres of total walking.
  • While the overall amount of walking is moderate, the terrain near the old craters on Mount Etna is uneven and can be slippery.
  • Guests with limited mobility or those using a wheelchair must be assisted and are advised not to attempt the crater area.
  • Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended, along with a jacket or jumper, as temperatures at higher altitudes on Mount Etna are significantly cooler than at sea level.
  • Cancellation Policy: Guests cancelling more than 5 days before the tour date will receive a full refund, with payment processing fees deducted. Cancellations made within 5 days of the tour date are non‑refundable.
