Best of Ephesus
Embark on a journey through Turkey’s sacred and historical heart, where ancient wonders and spiritual landmarks reveal stories that have shaped civilizations.
Begin your day at the House of the Virgin Mary, nestled on the peaceful slopes of Mount Koressos. Surrounded by lush greenery, this revered site—believed to be Mary’s final home—offers a tranquil moment for reflection and quiet connection.
Continue to the Ancient City of Ephesus, one of the best-preserved classical cities in the world. Walk along Marble Street, once bustling with merchants and philosophers, and admire the majestic Library of Celsus, a symbol of Roman intellect and elegance. Stand in awe at the Great Theatre, where over 25,000 spectators once gathered for performances and public discourse—its scale and acoustics still impress today.
Pause for a traditional Turkish lunch at a local restaurant, where rich flavors and warm hospitality offer a welcome break and a chance to reflect on the morning’s discoveries.
In the afternoon, visit the Basilica of St. John, perched on a hill overlooking Selçuk. Believed to be the burial site of St. John the Apostle, this sacred ruin offers panoramic views and a profound sense of history. Then, explore the Archaeological Museum of Selçuk, home to a remarkable collection of statues, mosaics, and everyday relics that bring the ancient world vividly to life.
On the way back, guests may choose to join an optional carpet-weaving demonstration in Kuşadası, where master artisans showcase the intricate techniques behind Turkey’s centuries-old craftsmanship. Guests who prefer not to attend may return directly to the ship. The carpet stores are located within walking distance of the cruise terminal, and all guests must walk through the port’s security checkpoint to reboard, as vehicles are not permitted inside the terminal area after tours.
