Erice & Segesta
This tour combines two of western Sicily’s most remarkable sites: the archaeological area of Segesta and the medieval hill town of Erice. Begin with a visit to Segesta, spectacularly set in a green hillside landscape and dominated by its solitary Doric temple. Standing for over 2,400 years, the remarkably preserved structure is one of Sicily’s most impressive ancient monuments and offers a striking introduction to the island’s classical heritage.
Continue to Erice, where your guide will lead you on a walking tour through its atmospheric narrow streets and quiet courtyards. Admire the exterior of the town’s two historic castles: Pepoli Castle and the Castle of Venus, a Norman fortress built on the site of an ancient temple and offering panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. The visit to the castles is exterior only.
Free time is provided to further explore Erice at your leisure, browse local shops, and enjoy lunch on your own. Don’t miss the chance to sample local specialties such as fish couscous or traditional pastries from Erice’s renowned bakeries.
