Trip Info

Ragusa & Modica

Depart the pier for a scenic drive of approximately 1.5 hours to Ragusa Ibla, the historic Old Town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perched on the eastern side of the city at about 400 meters above sea level, Ragusa Ibla is the original nucleus from which modern Ragusa later developed.

Upon arrival, begin a guided walking tour through this remarkable Baroque town. Highlights include St. George’s Portal, the 19th‑century Giardino Ibleo public garden, and the Church of St. James the Apostle, originally built in the 14th century and later rebuilt in the 18th century. Continue to the Cathedral of St. George, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture constructed between 1706 and 1760. Its impressive façade rises above a broad terrace overlooking Piazza San Giovanni, while its bell tower creates a distinctive, slightly asymmetrical skyline.

Following your guided visit, enjoy some free time for independent exploration or shopping before savoring a typical Sicilian lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch, rejoin your guide and board your vehicle for the journey to Modica, dramatically set along the southern slopes of the Hyblean Mountains. The upper town occupies a wedge‑shaped plateau, while the lower town extends in a characteristic Y‑shaped layout. During your guided walking tour, take in the Baroque atmosphere, pass by St. Peter’s Church, and visit a traditional dolceria for a tasting of Modica’s famous chocolate, crafted using an ancient technique with roots in Maya traditions.

At the conclusion of your visit, re‑board your vehicle for the approximately 1.5‑hour return drive to the pier.
