Mount Etna 4x4 Expedition

Arriving ashore, you’ll board your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and begin an unforgettable journey toward the slopes of Mt. Etna, one of Sicily’s most iconic natural wonders. Your tour starts with a brief panoramic view of the vibrant city of Catania, with its Baroque architecture and lively streets, before heading toward the majestic volcano.

As you leave Catania behind, your scenic drive winds through charming mountain villages and lush landscapes shaped by centuries of volcanic activity. Soon, you’ll reach Etna’s inactive Silvestri Craters, perched at approximately 6,397 feet above sea level. Here, you’ll be awed by Europe’s largest active volcano, whose commanding slopes rise nearly 11,000 feet and are dotted with countless cones and craters. From this vantage point, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the Gulf of Catania, fertile orchards, vineyards, and dense forests—all part of Sicily’s first national park. The craters themselves are a dramatic display of nature, showcasing ancient lava flows and rugged terrain. You’ll have time for a short rest stop and the option to browse charming souvenir shops nearby.

Next, your adventure continues as you board a cable car to ascend higher on the mountain, taking in sweeping views of the rugged volcanic landscape. From the cable car station, you’ll transfer to specially equipped 4×4 minibuses for an up-close exploration of the volcano’s main craters at over 9,500 feet above sea level. A professional alpine guide accompanies you, sharing fascinating insights into the geology and history of Mt. Etna. For those wishing to stretch their legs, a short 20-minute walk offers a closer view of the most recent lava flows.

After an exhilarating visit, you’ll return by a vehicle to the pier in Catania, concluding a day filled with stunning scenery, awe-inspiring volcanic landscapes, and memories to last a lifetime.
