Gythion Olive & Wine Tasting
Travel inland from Gythion, crossing the fertile plain of Laconia with the majestic Taygetus Mountains as your backdrop. Pass through ancient olive groves en route to Sparta, once the heart of a powerful city-state known for its austere lifestyle and minimalist architecture.
Your first stop is the Museum of the Olive & Greek Olive Oil, where the cultural and historical significance of the olive tree is vividly revealed. Discover fossilized leaves dating back 50,000 years, ancient texts from the 14th century BC, and a full chronology of olive oil production from antiquity to the early industrial era.
Continue to the Theodorakakos Estate, a family-run vineyard where rare varietals such as Kydonitsa and Mavroudi are cultivated using traditional methods. Sample a curated selection of wines, including Monemvasia (Malvasia), Assyrtiko, Roditis, and Agiorgitiko, all grown in the surrounding region and once favored by Byzantine nobility.
After this flavorful journey through Peloponnesian heritage, return to your ship at Gythion.
